THE LEGEND OF KEITH ep. 7

Posted by bbbrrr Sep. 15, 2009 @ 5:34 PM EDT

Children from all over the internets, gather 'round and let me tell you a tale. It is a tale of grand proportions, a tale upon an epic scale, a tale so amazing that few can read it without being physically AND emotionally moved. It is a tale of a young lad, a lad named Keith.
This young lad had a very peculiar problem - he was love struck. He had eyes for one and no other, and he believed whole heartedly that they were meant for each other. However, it seemed, at least to him, that the universe was dead-set on preventing him from being with his love. This is not his story, but rather the story of The Pink Panther with Keith superimposed upon the main character!
Just kidding.
Here we go.

Ep. 7, Arc 1 (Psychic City Arc), Ep. 2: The Psychic Wallflower
o*o*o*o

As leader of Psychic City's safety patrol (and one of the best psychics in town), Essence had a very nice life in Psychic City. She had a private house that was in the center of the city, but its placement wasn't merely because of importance. Unlike the rest of her city, Essence was one of the few individuals who knew of the monsters attacking the world. Thusly, her house held a device that cast a dome making it so that no one could get in unless they had permission. At least, that's what she had thought.
I don't understand, she told herself. How could those three have gotten in?

Unbeknownst to her, only two of the three had left like she had asked, and when they did, another one entered. One of the two outsiders was watching her; the other outsider was watching the first.
There was a knock at Essence's front door. She barely heard it, making her wonder why anyone wouldn't just use the doorbell. She walked to the door and opened it a crack, and much to her surprise, she saw Ben. "I would bet," he said, "that a house this big would have a rather loud, long and annoying doorbell that would waste a decent chunk of electricity if used often. Therefore, I knocked."

"What are you doing here? Didn't I ask you to leave?"
"No, you just suggested it, a suggestion my associates took but I ignored." Upon hearing this, Essence looked relieved. She fully opened her door, and motioned for Ben to come in. If anyone had been listening closely, they could have heard profanity from a nearby bush as the door shut.

"So Essence," Ben said as he walked in, "why is this place called Psychic City, what exactly is your position here, and how come you weren't scared of Derrek, seeing as this place is seemingly untouched by them?"
"In order: Because they believe I am one of a few psychics who founded this city, I'm the head of the safety patrol, second only to the mayor, and I wasn't scared for two reasons - one was that he was with you two, and I trust you two." She coughed twice during this little speech, which caused the gears inside Ben's head to begin to turn.
"And the other reason is because you've seen hostile monsters and he didn't look hostile?"
"Well, yes. This city has a barrier that should have protected it from your friend, because we created this city to be a haven from monsters. I still don't know how he got in..."

"I have an idea or two, but that is beside the point." She shot him a dirty look as they continued walking. "So you and some other people who knew about monsters put up this barrier to protect the city from them, and now this is one of the few, if not the only safe haven in the world. Am I getting this right?"
"Yeah, and that's why they think we are psychics. We told them no harm would come to them, and we can sense how they feel. They believe we're psychic, just because they are really easy to read..." They had finally stopped walking and were in a living room.

"I have a question," Ben said, taking a seat in a comfy armchair across from her, "that I hope you won't take offence to. Is this building soundproof and tap proof?"
"I have every reason to believe so."
"And is there anyone else here right now?"
"Only one or two staff members are still here, cleaning and attending to various issues. They never leave the house, actually."
"Good. I need to talk to you about something very important, something that cannot be overheard, and I have reason to believe that someone is spying on Keith, Derrek and I."

"Yeah, what are you guys doing out here anyway? Moreover, how are you two still alive?"
"We are travelling to Orlando actually to meet up with some...old friends, I'll call them that. And if my thinking is correct, then you'll soon discover why we are still alive. However, I have a question for you. If you knew about the hostile creatures, I assume then you have met some. How are you still alive?"
"People, and I guess monsters as well, don't seem to notice me. You know exactly what I mean."
"True, I guess I do," he said, the previous statement causing his gears to turn even faster. He was almost positive that he was right in his assumption, but he would need actual proof before he could convince himself or anyone else.

In another corridor of the shadow Bermuda Triangle base, three of the "members" were outside what seemed to be a prison cell. They were speaking amongst each-other.
"I don't think this cell will hold him," said one of them, "if he is who we think he is. These bars may be ultra-strong metal, but metal they are. I don't think this is the wisest idea."
"That's why we are here," said a second. He was the first one to have talked after their last surveillance session. "We are here to stop him if he gets the dumb idea to break out."

"Ok, I guess that makes sense," said the first. He looked into the cell. Inside was a boy of medium height, slightly on the pudgy side. He sat with his head down, but facing the door. He was silent. He was also in a straightjacket. To them, it appeared as if he had given up hope, but most anyone else could have told you that he was just devising a plan, and also silently swearing at them (in French) that the straightjacket was made of rubber, or else he would have already busted out.

Keith and Derrek were back at their campsite by now. The two of them had chatted some about what Ben could have found out by staying, but neither of them really had an idea.

"Ben tends to see things that others miss. It's helpful, but also painfully annoying."
"Yeah, he is pretty smart, but so am I. What are we missing here that Ben can see?"
"Perhaps nothing. Maybe he's just being overly skeptical."

There was another huge explosion, and it came below the cliff. They looked down and saw a large mass of goblins messing around in very close proximity to the city. They seemed to have some sort of explosive, and were using it to blow chunks off the cliff side. One chunk fell onto the city. There was an oddly indescribable noise, and the goblins all looked at the city. They howled and ran into the city. At the same time, Essence and Ben's conversation had just ended due to a massive rock knocking out the power station that supplied power to her house, and the barrier. "This could be a problem," she said.
