Life...

Posted by bbbrrr Mar. 11, 2009 @ 5:59 PM EDT

Take it or leave it...
Does it really matter in the end?
Will our actions have actually affected something on any level?
Why, of course. Sometimes just community level, or city or state (or whatnot...) and sometimes even country, maybe even continentally or globally (hey, it is possible...)
But What about universally? WIll our actions have mattered in the eyes of the universe?

Douglas Adams speculates on this in Restaurant at the End of the Universe, with the idea of the Total Perspective Vortex. This theorey states that we are infinitely small in the eyes of the universe, and thus have no effect on it, whatsoever. We are immensly unimportant, and nothing we can do will ever change that.

Will any of us ever find the meaning of life?
Once again, we turn to Douglas Adams, whose has been polite enough to inform us that it is 42. If only we knew the question...

Of course, if Adams is right, that also means that God's final message to his creation was "WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE" and that the universe is in the hands of a man living in a shack in some far off corner of the universe, with a cat for companionship.

Hope this made you think...

Ben was here...

The People Have Spoken

Well if his theory is true and we have no real effect than (to the universe that is)that means that there exists other living creatures(alien wise) that hold up as much meaning as we do
so that just means we've been granted a reason to find them
that also allows us to explore other planets and conquer them so we can have two planets in the name of Earth
The point of all this is that there are numerous amounts of theories to answer that question " Why are we here?" so the best thing we can do is live (party hard if you catch my drift) we can't do much except wait for some sort of sign
a sign to what is something else :3

You know, that reminds me...
I was talking to a friend of mine today (the second smartest person my age I know) and he was telling me of his theory, which I actually provoked by a comment a few days earlier...

Adams spoke of a multitude of dimensions (specifically in Mostly Harmless), and although it isn't implicitly stated, I believe one of those dimensions he was refering to was probability.
I told my friend this a couple of days ago, and after thinking about it, he told me of his newest theory this morning.

He says that there are an innumerable amount of universes, each one expressing different possibilities and probabilities. To quote him, "These universes are exactly the same, just with results different if it is probable that it could happen, such as you (myself) being born as a girl, or being smarter than me, or even being mentally retrded." He continued in saying that, assuming there is an infinite universe with infinite probability, there are an infinite number of universes just like ours, but exploring different possibilities of life. In theory, there could be a universe where the girl of my dreams actually notices my feelings, or where I wasn't born with a heart defect, or where my life didn't seem like a complete and utter shithole thanks to the blessings of the inconsiderate...
But that is all in theory...

Reminds me of that one Futurama episode with the alternate universes where coin-flips turn out oppositely...

I love that episode I like how the hair changed color
but theories is what makes the world go round if we had no theories our world would be incomplete"to know all is to die for what isn't important" a quote from an old guy whose name escapes me
that's why we live sir that's how we give meaning to our lives we give ourselves a reason to jump we can't do everything with just one life that's why we fill it with entertainment action drama we also affect what happens in other dimensions by living we choose what they do and not do we let things happen not all is probability

Mar. 11, 2009 | 9:33 PM bbbrrr responds:

True enough...
In theory, we need theory. Without it, we have no motivation. And yet, in literature, theory is nowhere near as important, and yet motivation is the key to understanding. Especially in plays...

Don't know why that came to mind, but it just did...
But anyway...

I base every choice I make off of motivation. Not my motivation...the motivavtion of others. Thus, in theory, theory is my motivation. Motivation is what we want to figure out to understand characters in plays, and in fiction. It is also what we need to figure out in order to understand stress, dreams, and life in itself. Thus, theory is integral to life.

Woo...transitive property is fun...

Mar. 11, 2009 | 9:39 PM 2ndFoxChild says:

So in theory without motivation there is no reside and with no reside we can't continue our purpose so(just to make it short) nothing will happen

Mar. 11, 2009 | 9:58 PM bbbrrr responds:

Yay! Transitive property for the win!!

Yeah, that is it, now isn't it. The question truly is, though, what does it mean, what can we do about it...

We know Adams theorized about the solution to life, the universe, and everything. And, supposedly, there was a proper question. Earth was actually a computer built by the one that came up with 42 (Deep Thought) in order to come up with the question. Someone did come up with it, a thought that she felt was "what had been going wrong all this time, and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right, it would work, and no one would have to get nailed to anything (a reference to an earlier line, guess who it was about...).
"Sadly, however, before she could get to a phone to tell anyone about it, a terrible, stupid catastrophe occured, and the idea was lost for ever."

Great to know that maybe, just maybe, there may be a way to solve the worlds problems...
But I don't care...I really should be doing my french powerpoint...or my astronomy paper...or study for my psychology test...so why am I philosophying?
I don't know...

But it is fun...

How old are you because I feel to young to talk like this even though it feels normal but I never spoke to some one like this I always wanted to but it's just that it feels so weird XD

Mar. 11, 2009 | 10:00 PM bbbrrr responds:

Just like my page says, I am 18.

Mar. 11, 2009 | 10:05 PM 2ndFoxChild says:

WOW I'm 14 and I understood all that anyways all we can do is keep living just check this outhttp://www.larrythepenguin.com/index.
html
it seems very interesting and summons a lot of ideas that are very controversial

Mar. 11, 2009 | 10:19 PM bbbrrr responds:

wow...that is one interesting book...

oh, and I don't find it that surprising...you are evidently pretty smart, and thats all it takes, no matter the age.

Mar. 11, 2009 | 10:29 PM 2ndFoxChild says:

yes that is true age doesn't matter but the odds that I know this and understand it is just O_O holy shit probability XD
just goes to show you how much this stuff affects us after all

Mar. 11, 2009 | 10:37 PM bbbrrr responds:

lol...
Imagine...if my friend is right, then right now, in possibly infinitely many universes, there are infinitely many you's and infinitely many me's having a conversation. SOme will be similar, some will be different, and maybe some are exactly the same...

Mar. 11, 2009 | 10:49 PM 2ndFoxChild says:

I had this idea if the theory was no longer a theory but a law
then wouldn't there be a dimension that already built a way to come to our dimension? but if that happened space would be fractured because all the dimensions would be able to contact each other so they would collide and create a weld
If only god answered one of these big questions
unless there is no god O_o

Mar. 11, 2009 | 10:55 PM bbbrrr responds:

What I think would end up happening is what did in that episode of futurama - two universes simulatneously create a bridge between eachother. Makes sense that it would happen...

Its fun to be agnostic...and philisophical...

Mar. 11, 2009 | 11:00 PM 2ndFoxChild says:

that's not fair if we thought like this in 1870 we would be rich mother fuckers
so what did all this philosophy conclude to Ben?

Mar. 11, 2009 | 11:04 PM bbbrrr responds:

I conclude that I really need to actually work on my school stuff...

Besides...I don't want to be rich. I would just buy a smart car, give money to some family and specific friends, and donate the rest of the money...

Sounds like something I would hear in ''Hicthhikers Guide to the Galaxy''

That was part of the point I was attempting to make...
