I lied...

Posted by bbbrrr Feb. 25, 2009 @ 10:03 PM EST

Okay, so it turns out that, while I meant it to be the truth, I lied. I really, really just did not want to type any more new stuff in the short story, but when I opened it up...my blockage just disappeared...

I will no longer split it into definate parts...I will just put up blocks of text that I just wrote. I will do as many as possible tonight and tomorrow night, but I hope to finish and edit soon (seeing as it needs to be in on Friday...) Anyway, here is what I just typed.

EDIT-just added more...EDIT 2-and now more...

TWO AND A HALF WEEKS LATER...

Sometimes, the universe rewards you for doing well. It sees that you put effort into getting something done, and it respects you for that. Thusly, it makes sure that you are pushed through the proper channels to see that this accomplishment of yours is fully realized. It makes sure that people notice what you have done, and that everyone sees your accomplishment as something outstanding, like it truly is.

Other times, however, this does happen - just not to you. You may have done something great, but the universe either completely ignores you, or it highlights something else instead of you. It is as if the universe is pointing and laughing, and at those times, all you can think is "Why, universe, why?"

Those were the exact words going through Big Brother's head at this moment. He had finished this year of college with multiple offers for jobs (in mechanical CAD) and yet no one noticed. Likewise, no one noticed that Middle brother had graduated as his school's Valedictorian. The only thing that their family noticed was little brother, and how he had a perfect 4.0 GPA in his freshman year. Middle Brother was just fine with being out of the limelight, and was content in sitting back and relaxing, all while making calculations about the approaching astronomic marvel. He was, in fact, very proud of both of his brothers (and himself), but felt it was unnecessary for him to actually say it. Big Brother, on the other hand, was out-right annoyed that he was getting offers for jobs and he hadn't even graduated yet. He realized that Little Brother had a great accomplishment, but he felt his was greater, and didn't see why anyone else didn't think that way. He was happy that at least Middle Brother noticed and congratulated him, but he felt it was just a formality on Middle Brother's part, and actually resented him for it.

Little Brother, on the other hand, felt very happy that, for once in his life, the focus was not on one of his older brothers, but rather on him. Sure, he was happy for them, but his elation with his own grades (and everyone's pride in them) surpassed any of those feelings, and he never got around to congratulating either of them. He barely even had time to work on planning Middle Brother's birthday party - which was then left solely on the shoulders of Big Brother. Little Brother was just glad to have his fifteen minutes, and didn't want anything to ruin it.

People say that everyone has a defining moment in their lives that changes their person, and makes them someone uniquely different. Some of us may have multiple moments like this. Looking back, anyone could say that this was definitely one of those moments for Big Brother. In this moment, right after thinking "Why universe, why," his next thoughts defined his being more than anything in his past 22 years. He thought that this just showed that his brother's would not always be there for him - he thought this showed that they would stop supporting him, sooner or later, and he felt it was time to try and sever the ties.

For this reason, he started looking into space, for the first real time.

(*NEW*)Big Brother's first idea was to look into the jobs he was offered, and see what there was that dealt with space. He wanted to see if there was any opportunity for him to work on or with equipment in space. He saw space as a place where he would be in complete isolation, with only co-workers to befriend, and no one to let him down (for if they did, they would put the mission in jeopardy). When he saw nothing there, he began to look for jobs with space stations around the world - he figured that with his background, he could get into almost anything with the technology. However, no suitable positions were open, and again, he had to redefine his search. That is when he remembered about the strange meteor shower - the one that was supposedly unknown and different from all other recorded ones.

He decided to look into this, and see what exactly was going on. Maybe, just maybe, he could make a report of it, send his results to NASA, and be in space in no time flat. Or so he hoped... He really wasn't sure what would happen, but he had to start somewhere, and he had decided to start there.

In the mean time, Middle Brother was watching him. Middle brother noticed these changes in him, and noticed his interest in the meteor shower, and became intrigued. He wanted to know why Big Brother was looking at it so intently, and started (stealthily) watching him. He didn't find out much, but he felt it was needed. He saw that something bad was coming, and wanted to stop it, if possible.

Unfortunately, it wasn't possible.

You see, sometimes there is a thing called destiny. Sometimes, fate does exist. It may not affect everyone, or even a majority. It may only affect a select few - but the Brentwood Brothers were some of those lucky few whose lives are controlled by fate, and nothing can stop them on their paths they are sent down. Once they reach a certain point, their paths must clash, and, no matter the cost, one destiny wins out over the other destiny, and the brothers are taken in that direction. Thus, even if Little Brother had congratulated Big Brother, or if Big Brother had taken the time to tell Middle Brother how he felt about the alleged patronage, the outcome would have still been somehow, the same.

A contraction is when you combine two words with an apostrophe, or just shorten one, like isn't, wasn't, or 'cus.
